Talk to North Brisbane Self Storage about your individual needs, so you can make the most of your self storage space.

Discuss your needs with a consultant at North Brisbane Self Storage to ensure you only pay for what you actually require.

An efficiently packed space will cost less than a larger space. However, if you need to access your storage space frequently, a well-organised larger space with racks and archive boxes may be more convenient for you.

Large, heavy items you can stack other goods on are generally stored at the back. Work forward and upwards with lighter, fragile items. Store goods you’ll need to access at the front of the space or leave a walkway to the rear if necessary. Using professional storage cartons and accessories gives maximum protection and makes stowing and unpacking easier and safer.

Our unique “side access” modular storage units have been specifically designed to provide the maximum possible access to your storage space. This has been been achieved by utilising multiple roller doors along the length of your storage area. This has the effect of increasing ease of packing and access and decreasing the overall amount of storage area that you require.

Each unit is 3m high, 1.8m wide and 1.8m deep. You can have 2 or more side by side if you wish, to accommodate larger storage need.

Arrange disconnection and reconnection of services like power, gas and phone. Cancel deliveries like the paper and drinks and organise redirection of mail with the post office.

Authorities and businesses to notify of your change of address include:
Electoral office, vehicle registration office, banks and financial advisers, taxation office, insurers, educational institutions, the Department of Social Security, Medicare, clubs and subscriptions.

The Self Storage Association of Australasia advises the use of the Standard Self Storage Agreement to protect the storer and the storage centre owner. It is an important document. Be sure to read it thoroughly. If you have any questions ask the staff at North Brisbane Self Storage.

Common sense and laws set down by government departments and authorities determine what can and can’t be stored. However, under your Self Storage Agreement you can’t store hazardous, dangerous, illegal, stolen, perishable, environmentally harmful goods or explosive goods.

The goods you have in a Self Storage space are yours and remain your sole responsibility. You should always have them covered by insurance. Your goods are not insured by the Self Storage centre. Check with your insurance provider to see if your cover has provision for items in storage – you may already be covered.

Fridges, freezers and other white goods should be clean and dry before storing, with a deodoriser inside for freshness and the door slightly ajar. Stoves and other cooking equipment should be cleaned before storing.
Avoid placing other items inside white goods. However, some goods can be stacked on top of fridges, freezers and stoves. Tools and other equipment should always be cleaned before storing.

Cover mattresses and lounges with plastic covers. Empty wardrobes, drawers and cupboards to protect shelving and framework. Disassemble beds and tables (where possible) and wrap legs. Store tables and other fragile items on padding upside down on top of other solid sturdy items to protect their legs and structure.

Vacuum upholstery clean before storing. Lightweight chairs can be stacked seat to seat, or on top of upturned tables. Use plastic covers to cover your furniture. Books should be packed flat, not on their spines, in small cartons so they’re easily handled.

Use a layer of packing at the top and bottom of cartons containing breakables. Individually wrap items in packing paper (newsprint works but you get very dirty). Nest plates and cups and stand plates, platters, casseroles and saucers on their edges. Fill any gaps in the carton with scrunched paper or material to prevent movement. Label all cartons containing breakables, don’t place heavy items on top of them.

Protect these items with packing material like bubble wrap and store them on their edges.
Fill your cartons. Partly filled or bulging cartons can tip or collapse. Packing and labelling cartons room by room makes unpacking or finding items much easier.

If you’ve kept the original boxes and packing materials, reuse them. Otherwise, bubble wrap items individually and store them is sealed cartons, remembering to fill all gaps with packing to protect and prevent movement.
Mowers and other machinery

Drain fuel and oil to reduce the risk of damage to other goods and avoid a possible fire hazard. Please place old carpet or carboard under item.

Wrap silverware in non-acid tissue paper or store in plastic bags to reduce tarnishing. Wipe chrome and cast iron items with a cloth impregnated with a little machine oil to retard rust.

We recommend removal of batteries to avoid damage from leaking acids.

If you’ve kept the original boxes and packing materials we recommend you reuse them. However bubble wrap and good quality cartons will also do the job. Remember to use packing material to line the top and bottom and to pack the gaps to protect the equipment and prevent movement.
